Position Available: Laborer/Maintenance Worker

Village of Maple Rapids – Department of Public Works

The Village of Maple Rapids is seeking a highly motivated and dependable individual to join our Department of Public Works (DPW). This role is vital to the day-to-day operations and upkeep of our community, ensuring our village properties and infrastructure remain safe and well-maintained.

Role Overview

This is a hands-on position responsible for the general maintenance and operation of Village-owned assets. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Seasonal Maintenance: Lawn mowing, landscaping, and snow plowing.

  • Infrastructure: Maintenance of village-owned properties and facilities.

  • Technical Support: Assisting with water and sewer system operations and basic underground construction/construction practices.

  • Equipment Operation: Operating heavy machinery and performing tree removal as needed.

  • Administrative: Accurate report preparation and record keeping.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Licensing: Must possess a valid Michigan Driver’s License.

    • Requirement to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Air Brakes within three (3) months of hire.

    • Willingness to obtain specific licenses for water and sewer maintenance upon hire.

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Advanced knowledge of water and sewer systems.

  • Experience in road maintenance and heavy equipment operation.

  • Knowledge of tree removal and basic construction practices.

  • Strong organizational skills for documentation and reporting.

Compensation & Benefits

The Village of Maple Rapids offers a comprehensive wage and benefit package for this hourly position. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

NOTICE OF PUBLIC REVIEW, PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD, AND PUBLIC HEARING

 

The 2026-2031 Village of Maple Rapids 5 Year Park and Recreation Plan draft is now available for a 30-day public review and comment period. Following this period, the Village of Maple Rapids Parks and Recreation Committee will conduct a public hearing at 7:00 pm on October 27th, 2025 at the Village office 118 W. Adelaid St., Maple Rapids. The purpose of the hearing is to receive final public comments regarding the Recreation Plan. After the hearing, there will be a regularly scheduled Board of Trustees meeting to consider the adoption of the Recreation Plan.

 

The Recreation Plan draft can be viewed online at Village of Maple Rapids website: www.maplerapids.org Beginning September 26th, during business hours and days, a printed copy will be available for review at the Maple Rapids Library during library hours. Written comments can be submitted to Parks and Recreation Committee, 118 W Adelaide St, PO Box 200, Maple Rapids, MI 48853 or dropped off at the Village Office Drop Box.  By October 26, 2025.

Village will be working on a new Call Notification System to be used for some emergency notifications.

Watch for additional information in the with July Water Bill and July Newsletter. — A form will be need to be completed with your information so it can be added to the system. Please only add those numbers that are needed. We have to pay for each and every call. It is your responsibility to contact the Village for any contact information changes. There is a copy of the form in the documents page on out website.

THIS CALL SYSTEM IS FOR THE VILLAGE TO CONTACT YOU IN CASE OF A VILLAGE EMERGENCY ANNOUNCEMENT. For example like last November when the sewer system was having issues and we needed limited water use.
